Lady Cats split with Borden County, Garden City to stay in playoff hunt

GRADY - Grady’s varsity girls played Borden County and Garden CIty over the last week and split the two contests to stay in the Class A playoff hunt. The recent losing skid has dropped Grady to No. 24 in the recent Texas Association Basketball Coaches rankins. Last Friday, Grady hit the road and headed to Borden County. The Lady Cats battled all game but the Coyotes offense was too strong resulting in a 45-33 Grady loss. Scoring for Grady were: Maddy Garza 16 Haydn Burge 6 Jessi Everett 4 Ashley Hill 3 Sydney Gonzales 4 The loss dropped Grady to 1-2 in district play and tetering on the playoff fence. Grady returned home for a Tuesday night game against Garden City. As usual, the game came down to the final minutes but Grady managed to get a couple buckets down the stretch for a 37-33 victory. Scoring for Grady were: Sydney Gonzales 14 Maddy Garza 9 Raina Short 6 Ashley Hill 3 Jessi Everett 2 Mercedes Jimenez 2 Haydn Burge 1 Lady Cats move to 20-5 overall and 2-2 in district play. Next on the shedule for Grady will be a road contest at Klondike. The game is slated to begin at 6:30 pm. Friday’s matchup will mark the end of the first round of district play for both teams.
