Stanton’s Smith wins gold at C-City powerlifting meet

COLORADO CITY - Ashton Smith turned a few heads Saturday at the Colorado City High School powerlifting meet on Jan. 18 by lifting a total of 1,360 in his weight class. His effort was enough for the Stanton High School Buffalo to finish in 1st place in his weight class. For the Stanton girls team, Marisela Lozano tossed up some big numbers to finish with a second place medal in her weight class. Rounding out the top medal placers for the SHS team were Gena Lewis and Tyler Waggoner with third place performances in their respective divisions. Girls 132 Class, 10th Macy Nix 400 TW (total weight) 148 Class, 10th Natalie Taylor 475 TW 198 Class, 3rd Gena Lewis 640 TW 259 Class, 2nd Marisela Lozano 660 TW Boys 114 Class, 3rd Tyler Waggoner 645 TW 165 Class, 8th Braden Waggoner 810 TW 198 Class, 12th John Allan Carby 615 TW 198 Class, 10th Tony Hatfield 905 TW 242 Class, 1st Ashton Smith 1360 TW 275 Class, 9th Payden Alberts 1105 TW The Buffaloes are back in action this week at Coahoma High School. The events is scheduled for 9 am - 3 pm.
