GALVESTON - The late Bob Dillard, longtime publisher and editor of Jeff Davis County Mountain Dispatch and Martin County Messenger in Stanton, was inducted into the Texas Newspaper Foundation Hall of Fame over the weekend at the Texas Press Association 2020 Convention at Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center in Galveston.

Inductees have been credited with outstanding achievements and contributions to the newspaper industry and to their communities and were chosen in a selection committee meeting in November of 2019.

In 1976, after graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington, Dillard along with wife Chiristi, bought a share of the Alpine Avalanche and settled in Fort Davis. The Dillard’s operated and co-edited the Avalanche until 1990. The Dillard’s would go on to own and publish the Big Bend Sentinel in Marfa, the Martin County Messenger in Stanton and the Greenwood Ranger in the suburb outside of Midland.

Dillard would publish and edit the Jeff Davis County Mountain Dispatch and Martin County Messenger until his death in July of 2019.

The Austin-based Texas Newspaper Foundation created the hall of fame in 2006 to induct up to four individuals annually.
