Stanton Junior High takes on Coahoma, Colorado City

STANTON - Last Thursday the Stanton Junior High basketball teams took on Coahoma with the girls teams playing in Stanton and the boys teams playing in Coahoma.

The seventh grade girls B team lost to Coahoma by just a few points with a final score of 19 - 16.

Abby and Ariel led the team with four points each. Joelle, Juli, Nevaeh, and Maddison all contributed two points a piece.

The seventh grade girl A team lost to Coahoma 27 - 17.

Aubrey V. was the high scorer of the night with eight points. Emma scored five points and Ryann and Mikaela both threw for two points each.

Coahoma just squeaked passed the seventh grade boys B team with a final score of 32 - 31.

A. Gamboa scored twelve points for the Buffs, with C. Gleghorn right behind him with ten points. J. Rodriguez helped with four points, while JC Hernandez threw in three points and L. Stovall contributed two points.

The seventh grade boys A team fell to Coahoma 22 - 18.

J. Tally led the team with 10 points. D. Thiebaud and B. Hernandez both scored three points each, and J. Benedict contributed two points as well.

Both eighth grade girls teams suffered big losses to Coahoma.

The B team had a final score of 41 - 11, with A. Ramos scoring seven points for the Lady Buffs. S. Phillips scored three points and M. Williams scored one point.

The A team fell with a score of 33 - 11. V. Olivar led with five points and J. Escamilla, K. Ureste, and M. Mendoza all scored two points each.

The eighth grade boys B team was just shy of a win with a final score of 18 - 17.

Matthew Whitley was top scorer for the Buffs with nine points and Braden Dosier & Adriel Avila both helped out with four points each.

The eighth grade boys A team came up short vs. Coahoma with a score of 36 - 24.

Jahir Galindo had an impressive fifteen points for the game. Seth Stoval helped out with five points, and Riley Mabry and Xavier Villa both contributed two points.

This past Monday the Junior High Buffaloes took on Colorado City with the girls battling it out in C-City and the boys playing here in Stanton.

The seventh grade girls A team went into OT with CCity but were just edged out with a score of 27 - 25.

Leading the Lady Buffs in scoring was Emma, with twelve points. Aubrey V. threw in for four points, while Aubry S., Addi, Alexis, and Mikaela all scored two points and Maddie contributed one point.

C-City did not have a seventh grade girls B team to play so our B team Lady Buffs had to sit one out.

The seventh grade boys B team fell to C-City with a score of 22-15.

Top scorer for the Buffs was C. Gleghorn with five points and JC Hernandez was just behind him with four points scored. J. Rodriguez, T. Whitaker, and A. Louder all helped out with two points each.

The seventh grade boys A team pushed past C-City for a win with a final score of 25 -24.

Leading the Buffs was J. Tally tossing in ten points. A. Armendarez and R. Turney both threw in four points. L. Cazares scored three points for the Buffs, while J. Benedict and D. Thiebaud both helped with two points each.

Both the eighth grade girls teams were victorious over C-City.

The B team beat them with a score of 31 - 7. The Lady Buffs were led in scoring by K. Ureste and M. Mendoza who both had eight points for the night. K. Jefferson and R. Shelton each scored four points. H. Thigpen scored three points, while J. Escamilla and A. Aleman each helped with two points.

The A team won 25 - 20, with A. Ramos tossing up an impressive sixteen points. G. Gallegos scored four points, A. Almaguer helped with three points and A. Cantu contributed two points.

The eighth grade boys teams both collected losses to Colorado City.

The B team had a final score of 40 - 7, with S. Ramos and A. Melendez each scoring three points and B. Dobbs scoring one point.

The A team had a final score of 54 - 21. J. Galindo led with twelve points. Three other scorers finished stacked right behind each other with D. Wickler getting four points, S. Stoval scoring three points, and R. Mabry coming in with two points.

The Junior High Buffs and Lady Buffs next face off against Forsan on Feb. 3 with the girls playing in Stanton and the boys traveling to Forsan.
