MARTIN COUNTY - It’s time to find out who has the best recipe in Texas as the 31st Annual Great Texas Soup Cook-Off draws near.

This year’s event will be Feb. 15 at the Martin County Community Center from 5-7 p.m.

The cook off is the Martin County Convent’s yearly fund raiser to restore and protect the historic Carmelite Monastery building.

The soup cook-off is considered by many area cooks as a terrific way to get out the best recipes and compete with other chefs from around the Permian Basin for the best tasting soup.

Plaques will be handed out to the top three soups with the most public votes and then a “Best Tasting Soup” will be awarded by special guest judges.

Also the best decorated table will be recognized and given a plaque. Contestants need to bring 2 ½ gallons or more of hot soup (enough to serve a taste to 200+), a crock pot, extension cord and a ladle or serving utensil.

Contestants will be provided a table, cups, spoons and crackers.

The Community Center will open at 4 pm for decorating and setting up tables for contestants.

All contestants should be ready to serve by 4:55 p.m.

Tickets sold at the door are $5.
