MIDLAND - Russell August Blumentritt, 90 of Midland, died Feb. 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born Mar. 31, 1927, in Runnels County, he attended Wall School, and graduated from San Angelo High School, with proud moments scoring touchdowns for the Bob cat’s football team. He earned an Associate degree from San Angelo College, and both a Bachelor's degree in Geology and Master's degree in Geophysics from Texas Tech. He began his petroleum career well sitting in West Texas with Geolog, followed by employment at Core Laboratories in Dallas. He extended his career into geophysics working with Geophysical Services, Inc. (GSI), the original parent company of Texas Instruments. Following retirement from Chevron in 1992, he worked in petroleum consulting for several years, he then went back to his farm roots and worked in the federal program for cotton boll weevil eradication in Stanton and Garden City until the age of 82 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam A. and Edith P. Blumentritt of San Angelo. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; daughters Patricia and husband Michael Tanner of Georgetown and Tania and husband Darrell Tompkins of Austin; brother Charles Blumentritt of Dallas; and valued cousins and friends. Funeral Mass was Feb. 10, at St Ann's Catholic Church in Midland. Inurnment followed in St. Ann's columbarium.
