MARTIN COUNTY — Following Governor Abbott’s executive order that masks will be mandatory for counties with 20 or more active cases, Martin County was in the clear.

But with every passing day the number of active cases climb closer and closer to the mandated limit.

As of July 22, Martin County reported 18 active cases. Health officials report a total of 35 positive cases with 15 recoveries and one fatality.

Earlier this week one Stanton resident was being treated at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

A second part to Abbott’s executive order was masks would not have to be worn if people were able to properly social distance while outside.

There is a laundry list of other exemptions and they can be found along with the entire executive order at https://gov.texas. gov/uploads/files/press/EO-GA-29-use-of-face-coveringsduring-COVID-19-IMAGE-07-02-2020.pdf

Texas has surged to 351,618 positive cases on 3,104,148 viral tests for an 11.33 percent positivity rate.

Deaths have risen to 4,348 making the Texas fatality rate 1.23 percent.

Just yesterday, Texas reported 9,879 new cases and 197 new fatalities which is the largest one day fatality total recorded.
