FORSAN - In Friday's Battle of the Buffaloes rivalry, the Forsan Buffaloes football squad ran past the visiting Stanton Buffaloes by a score of 27-6.

Forsan took and early 7-0 lead and held it until halftime. The two teams were only separated by one touchdown after the third quarter but Forsan still held the slim 13-6 lead.

Everything fell apart for Stanton in the fourth quarter as Forsan double their number of touchdown increasing their lead to the game winning score of 27-6.

Stanton finished the game with 15 first downs, 228 yards and only 22 yards in penalties. Forsan managed 14 first downs, 218 yards and racked up 96 yards in penalties.

The turnover battle proved to be the game changer as Forsan’s defense forced four turnovers, two interceptions and two fumbles.

Stanton quarterback Tyler Benedict finished the game with four completes on nine attempts for 43 yards and two interceptions.

Those four completions went to four different receivers. Hoyt Mims caught one pass for 21 yards followed by Evan Cox, Josh Hensley, and Austin Hewtty with one reception each for nine, eight, and five yards respectively.

On the ground, Stanton was led by Cox who averaged 5.2 yards per carry. He finished with 83 yards and one touchdown.

Also contributing to Stanton’s rushing attack were Miguel Moreno with 34 yards, Hewtty, 27 yards, Benedict 29 yards, and Adrian De La O 12 yards.

The Buffaloes defense was led by Eddie Wittenbarger and Hewtty with 13 tackles each. Also tallying double digits tackles were Marco Armendarez and Rene Samora with 12 and 11 respectively.

Cox ended the game with nine tackles followed by Moreno, De La O, and Ashton Smith with five apiece and Israel Cazares totaled four.

Hensley, Mims, Benedict, and Roger Martinez had three tackles each and Ryllan Martinez and Payden Alberts added one tackle each.

Coming up next, the Buffaloes face Sundown in a non-district game, on Sept. 18 in Sundown at 7:30 pm. Stanton will attempt to improve on its 1-2 season record. The Roughnecks come into the game with a 2-1 record after their 21-12 loss to No. 15 Abernathy.
