BUENA VISTA – The Grady Wildcats continue to improve with each passing week. The most recent game was a 58-22 victory over Buena Vista. The Longhorns entered the contest as 25-point favorites, but Grady accepted its role as underdog and crushed all expectations.

Grady started strong with three touchdowns in the first quarter.

Frankie Jimenez started the game with a one-yard touchdown run followed by Caden Hayes scoring touchdowns on runs of 45 yards and six yards giving the Wildcats a 24-8 lead.

Jimenez and Hayes combined for two more touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of four and seven yards respectively.

Buena Vista added its second score at the end of the half to cut Grady’s lead to 38- 16.

The Longhorns would try to make things interesting with another six points to start the third quarter but Grady riddled the scoreboard with another 20 points to put the game out of reach.

Hayes scored all the touchdown with runs of 36, seven, and 11 yards.

Hayes finished the game with one completion for 34 yards and 18 carries for 217 yards and six touchdowns.

Hunter McAnally also had one completion for 10 yards.

Cooper Walling caught the pass from Hayes for 34 yards and Cobe Cortez hauled in McAnally’s pass for 10 yards.

Jimenez ended the game with eight carries for 40 yards and two touchdowns and Isaiah Ontiveros added 43 yards on nine carries.

Grady’s defense was led by Kody Cates with 16 tackles and Jimenez with 14 tackles.

Wallin finished the game with nine tackles while McAnally and Ontiveros brought down eight Longhorns each.

Hayes, Cortez, and Arath Alarcon tallied four tackles each.

Other defensive stats had Ontiveros with an interception, Jimenez and McAnally with one fumble recovery each and Cortez with one forced fumble.

The Wildcats are open this week and will begin District 6 action at home on Oct. 23 against No. 4 Rankin at 7:30 p.m.

Rankin’s most recent victory was a 54-6 win over Nueces Canyon.
