Grady distance runners prep for disrtict meet

LUBBOCK - Grady’s high school cross country teams have had a busy couple weeks. The varsity boys competed in the Lubbock Invitational Cross Country meet on Oct. 10 and the varsity girls ran at Romp in the Park in Lamesa on Oct. 17.

The Wildcats had two runners place in the top 15 to earn a medal. Hagan O'Donnell led the team with an 11th place finish in a time of 20:09. Logan Aaron also medaled finishing 15th with a time of 21:12.

The rest of the team finished in the top 25.

Isaiah Ontiveros was 18th in a time of 21:30 followed by Austin Aaron in 19th running a 21:39, and Cooper Sims was 20th with his time of 21:4.

Hunter Blaylock crossed the line in 23rd place with a time of 22:23. and Frankie Jimenez finished 25th with a time of 22:47.

“This was our second time running at Mae Simmons Park this year and every runner improved their time by a minute or more,” said Grady coach Jym Dennis. “We are still working to get our times down. Each week we are getting faster preparing for our district meet. The boys continue to put time in and work hard.”

For the varsity girls, both Lady Cat runners finished in the top 20.

Yarelia Rodriguez was 13th with a time of 14:49.89 and Makayla Oviedo was 18th with a time of 15:17.52.

The District 8 meet is scheduled for Oct. 26 in Lamesa.

The Region 1 Class A meet is currently scheduled for Nov. 9 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

The final race of the cross country season is the State meet at Old Settlers park in Round Rock on Nov. 23.

Girls are set to run at 9 a.m. and the boys will follow at 9:45 a.m.
