GRADY - The Grady Wildcats football team had a relaxing open week and are now ready for the tough road that is District 6-1A Division I.

The Wildcats (4-3) open district play by hosting No. 4-ranked Rankin (6-1), a team that Short said is one of the best teams in the state.

“They’re probably one of the best teams in the state when healthy,” Short said. “They’ve got great speed, they can throw the ball and they’ve got great running backs. It’s going to be really tough, but we’re going to show up and do what we do.”

“It’s going to be a tough, physical challenge, we know that. But we’re not going to back down either,” Short added. “One of the things I’ve learned about these 10 kids is that they’re going to give you everything they have. And they’ve done that this season.”

Grady takes a four-game winning streak into the match-up against the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football preseason district favorite Red Devils.

“We’ve improved every week,” Short said. “We’ve won four straight, but even before that, we were getting better.”

After Rankin, Grady will host Garden City on Oct. 30. and will finish the district season on Nov. 6 with a road game against Midland Texas Leadership Charter Academy.

Both Garden City and Midland TLCA have season records of 3-4 and Rankin is currently 5-1.
