Stanton runs over Iraan , Grape Creek

STANTON – The Stanton varsity girls basketball teams crushed Iraan and Grape Creek to finish off the 2020 sports year.

First up was Iraan on Dec. 18 in Stanton.

A slow start offensively put Stanton in a 18-15 hole at halftime. A good locker room talked must have sparked the Buffs offense as Stanton rattled off a 26-11 run for a 41-29 victory.

Sydney Harris was high point with 12 while Gaby Rodriguez added six.

Natalie Taylor, Shelby Phillips, and Zoey Ruiz finished the game with five points each.

Hailea Veracruz scored four points while Sarah Denson and Rylee Murry had two points each.

The final game of 2020 was a home contest with Grape Creek on Dec. 29.

The Buffaloes had another slow start only building a 15-8 lead by halftime. Stanton turned on the offensive jets in the second half and cruised to a 41-25 lead.

Ruiz led all scorers with a game high 10 points.

Rodriguez chipped in with nine points and Kayleigh Villa and Murry added six points each.

Denson drained five points followed by Harris with three and Taylor with two.

Stanton’s next game will be on the road at Reagan County starting at 6:30 p.m.
