GRADY – Grady’s high school boys’ basketball teams were in action this week against the Sterling City Eagles.

The varsity game ended up being highly competitive despite a lackluster start by Grady.

The dismal first quarter allowed Sterling City a 14-4 advantage that Grady never overcame.

The Wildcats did cut the lead to 19-12 by halftime and outscored Sterling City in the second half but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles won 38- 32.

“Great game for us right before the start of district play. Thought our kids competed very well,” stated Grady coach Chris Short. “Sterling City has a very solid ball club and we had one of our best defensive efforts of the season. One issue is we are still struggling to score on the offensive end of the floor.”

Logan Aaron led the Wildcats in scoring with eight points and Austin Aaron added six points.

Quint Harrell, Gunnar Rivas, and Cooper Sims finished the game with four points each while Frankie Jimenez, Cobe Cortez, and Cooper Wallin scored two points apiece.

The loss drops the varsity record to 3-7.

In the junior varsity game, Grady put up a good effort, but Sterling City managed to marginally outscore Grady in all four quarters to amass a double digit 44-32 victory.

Colt Carson scored a season high 10 points to lead Grady and Kody Cates added nine points.

Chapman Sims ended the game with five points while Hunter McAnally, Hagan O’Donnell, Austin Snider, and Hunter Blaylock chipped in with two points each.

Grady’s record dipped to 6-2 with the loss.

Upcoming games for Grady are Friday at Klondike with the junior varsity starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity tipping off at 8 p.m.
