STANTON – Members of the Martin County Volunteer Fire Department voted to rename the fire station in Stanton after longtime chief and volunteer fireman, the late Lonnie Joe Long.

Long was 72 when he died on Sept. 29, 2020.

He was a Veteran of the US National Guard and worked for Southwestern Bell for 30 years.

He graciously served on the Martin County Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years. Most of those years were as chief as he took over in the early 1980’s.
