O’DONNELL - It has been an up and down season for the Grady Lady Wildcats but when the pressure was on they played some of their best basketball.

With one district game remaining, Grady had to knock off a talented Garden City team.

The action was fast paced and both teams were firing on all cylinders.

Grady’s defense and offense proved to be slightly better and the Wildcats topped the Bearkats 42-37 to clinch the final playoff sot.

Grady finished district with a 6-4 record.

Raina Short finished the game with a staggering 22 points.

Sydney Gonzales and Delaney Saunders scored six points each for the Wildcats.

Sage McAnally chipped in with three points while Jessi Everett and Samantha Griffin added two points each.

Skye Shock pitched in with with one.

The win earned Grady the opportunity to play Whitharral in the bi-district round of the Class A Playoffs.

The two teams met at O’Donnell High School, a gym the Wildcats are very familiar with as O’Donnell is a yearly opponent.

Grady took control of the game early and never relinquished its lead.

After four hard fought quarter, the Lady Cats had defeated Whitharral 44-33.

Short had an unbelievable performance scoring a game high 31 points.

Gonzales tossd in seven big points and McAnally ended theg ame with three points.

Kenley Ivy had two points for Grady and Griffin added one.

The Lady Cats will play District 6 Champion Lorenzo for the Area Championship Thursday, Feb 18 at 4:00 p.m. at Lubbock Roosevelt.

This game has been rescheduled multiple times and is not set in stone. If Roosevelt experiences the energy conservation and water issues many are currently experiencing, the game will be moved to Wellman-Union.

If Wellman-Union does not have class, the game will be played at 4:00 pm. If they do have school, it will be at 6:00 pm.

This leaves the official tip-off hanging in the air. The final decision will be made by noon on Feb. 18.

The winner will play the winner of Sands and Guthrie in the regional quarterfinals tentatively set for this weekend at a location TBD.
