MARTIN COUNTY - Schools across Martin County and West Texas have cancelled several days of school or have called off the entire week.

Stanton Independent School District officials have had several conversations with Oncor and the City of Stanton, and have decided to close all campuses for the remainder of the week.

Continued power outage concerns coupled with ice, frozen pipes, and fire suppression issues has created an environment that may not be safe for students.

All Stanton ISD classes will resume Monday, Feb. 22.

Although road conditions continue to improve, the main concern for rural Grady ISD currently is the continuous energy conservation that is causing scheduled blackouts.

The campus of Grady is currently experiencing electricity going in and out like much of rural Martin County.

On top of no electricity, the water on campus is currently out as well.

School district officials feel that it is in the best interest of the students and staff to cancel school again for Feb. 18.

It is unclear as of press time if school will be cancelled for Feb. 19.

The Texas Education Agency has issued a missed school day waiver for school districts experiencing power outages that will allow for a maximum of three days without make-up required or having to utilize bad weather days.
