STANTON – Stanton’s two junior varsity teams competed in two games earlier this month.
The Lady Buffs hosted Coahoma on Feb. 4 and gave the crowd a game to remember.
Coahoma managed a slim 5-4 lead after the first quarter, but Stanton’s defense kept Coahoma scoreless in the second quarter allowing the Lady Buffs a 9-5 halftime lead.
Coahoma managed to chip away at the lead slightly in both the third and fourth quarter, but Stanton final field goal sealed the 22-20 victory.
Chaselyn Fisher led Stanton in scoring with 11 points and Vivian Soloranzo and Rylee Murry added four points each. A. Villa finished the game with three points.
Also on Feb. 4, the junior varsity boys dismantled Coahoma 49-33.
The game was practically over by halftime as Stanton had already built a 33-13 lead.
Arturo Salinas led Stanton in scoring with 14 points and Max Lopez added 12 points.
Nickoli Aguirre tossed in 10 points while Thaddeus Zarate pitched in with six. Eddie Wittenbarger had four points and Jimmy Anderson had three.
