STANTON - The Stanton Buffaloes baseball team started the season off a little slow but picked up the pace recently earning two wins.
On Feb. 24, Reagan County bested the Buffs 14-4.
Stanton did have a 4-3 lead after four innings but the Owl erupted for five and six runs in the final two frames to secure the win.
Tyler Benedict scored two runs and Garrett Vanderveen and David Ochoa added one run each.
Micah Hinojosa had a double and two RBIs and Ochoa had on RBI.
Next on the schedule was Brownfield. After five tough inning, Brownfield won 12-2.
Jaxson Lindell and Benedict score one run each.
On Feb. 28, Denver City proved to be the better team with a 16-0 victory.
Stran Stewart recorded a double for the Buffs.
Stanton traveled to Shallowater and started the game off hot with three runs in the top of the first inning. Shallowater answered with five runs and went on to outscore the Buffs 13-3.
Vanderveen, Hinojosa and Miguel Moreno each crossed the plate for Stanton off the bats of Ochoa, Vanderveen and Benedict.
Moreno had a double for Stanton.
On Feb. 29, the Buffs battled Seminole.
Another good start gave Stanton a 2-0 lead before Seminole tied the game at 2-2.
The Indians would go on to score 18 points but Stanton had it’s best inning of the season scoring 7 runs.
Moreno touched the plate twice for Stanton while Jacob Day, Ochoa, Thaddeus Zarate, Aaron Escamilla, Vanderveen, Hinojosa and Ethan Quaid touched once each.
RBIs were provided by Ochoa, Zarate, Escamilla, Quaid and Moreno.
Ochoa, Escamilla and Quaid hit doubles.
The Buffs got a big win over Rotan on Mar. 2.
Rotan took a 2-0 lead after the first inning with Stanton cutting the margin to one after the second inning and eventually taking a 3-2 lead after five rounds.
Rotan re-took the lead in the sixth but Stanton blow up the scoreboard with five runs to earn an 8-4 victory.
Ochoa and Vanderveen scored two runs each while Day, Zarate, Hinojosa, and Moreno scored the other four runs.
Ochoa knocked in three runs and Vanderveen hit in two. Hinojosa accounted for the final RBI.
The only extra base hit was a double by Vanderveen.
Ochoa earned the victory from the mount with a complete seven innings pitched.
He gave up three hits, one walk and four runs while striking out nine.
