O’DONNELL - The football season has officially begun for Grady following its scrimmage with O’Donnell last Friday.
The Wildcats had several high points on the day with several players stepping up with some stand out plays.
“I thought we moved the ball well with our run game and we passed the ball well,” said Grady coach Chris Short. “Hunter McAnally and Koday Cates threw the ball well and Caden Hayes and Frankie Jimenez ran well. Cooper Wallin had a good day at receiver catching the ball and blocking.”
Grady is a younger team and for that reason is behind schedule in a couple areas.
“We are going to have to stay on our blocks longer,” stated Short. “ Experience is going to be a factor for us at the beginning of the year. But the kids played really hard and got better with each play.”
With only 10 players conditioning will be a big factor for Grady as many players will be forced to play both sides of the ball.
The Wildcat’s have been focused this week during practice in preparation for the season opener with Highland.
“Highland will be a very tough first game for us. They have an outstanding running back with lots of returning starters from last season,” said Short. “We are going to run several different offensive sets at them. Defensively we are going to try to get in the backfield and make plays on their running backs.”
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Highland.
