FORSAN - The Stanton Middle School football teams got off to a hot start on Thursday, despite the cold and wet weather, opening the season with a pair of wins over Forsan.
The 7th Grade Buffaloes romped their way to a 36-0 shutout victory, while the 8th Grade team made a key stop and scored a late touchdown to secure a 28-14 win.
Travis Palomo scored twice for the 7th Grade, while Chris Salgado, Matthew Nichols, and Isaiah DeLeon each scored once behind a solid performance from the offensive line.
On the other side of the ball, the defensive unit never gave Forsan a chance to get going, coming up with several big hits and key stops.
The 8th Grade squad also had a strong start, with Kameron Isemann scoring on the very first place from scrimmage, before being called back due to a penalty.
After overcoming some first-game jitters and early miscues, the 8th Graders found their rhythm, jumping out to a 22-0 lead, with strong running from Isemann and Jaiden Bernal.
Forsan answered back and opened the second half quickly slicing the Buffaloes' lead to 22-14.
A big defensive stop, however, followed by a late score, helped Stanton put the game away in the final moments for a 28-14 seasonopening win.
