Junior high Buffs open hardwood seasons

STANTON – The Stanton junior high basketball teams have been busy the past couple weeks.

The seventh grade ‘A’ team started with a Nov. 16 game against Crane.

Stanton’s defense was superb holding Crane scoreless for the first three quarters for an easy 28-6 victory.

Ale Glover led Stanton in scoring with 13 points and Larissa Marquez added seven.

Allyson Barrera, Peyton Moore, Miley Robertson, and Emerie Barnes finished with two points each.

Stanton would return to action following the Thanksgiving break and lose to Reagan County 21-8.

Glover led the Buffs with four points while Barrera scored two and Marquez added one.

Next up was a very tough Coahoma team. The Bulldogettes’ offense was on fire beating the Lady Buffs 45-10.

Marquez finished the game with four points and Barrera and Moore had three each.

The Buff’s seventh grade ‘B’ team has had two games.

The first was an 8-4 loss to Reagan County last Thursday. Gabby and Zoe scored

Gabby and Zoe scored two points each for Stanton.

The Buffs played Coahoma on Monday and lost 24-15.

Katy and Jacee led Stanton in scoring with five points each.

Natly and Gabby added two points each and Hanny chipped in with one point.

The eighth grade ‘A’ team also played Coahoma on Monday and scored 12 points.

Players with points were Aubry Silva with four, Kennedy Keys four, Maddie Hull two, and Aubrey Villa two.

The ‘B’ team played exceptionally well beating Coahoma 29-24.

R. Bryand was high point with 13 and C. Hill added six.

M. Power and A. Campos scored four points each and P. Carby tossed in two points.

Stanton’s eighth grade boys were in action Monday against Coahoma.

The ‘A’ team lost 24-10.

Benedict and Turney led the team with four points each and Carcazares had two.

The B’ team fell 28-8.

Stovall, Reyes, Melendez, and Salcido each had two points.

Also playing Coahoma on Monday were the seventh grade boys. The ‘A’ team lost 16-6 and the ‘B’ team lost 62-11.
