Grady teams keep crowds entertained

GRADY – It was an exciting first couple days of basketball for the Grady Wildcat boys’ basketball teams with the varsity losing in the final minutes, the junior varsity getting a crushing win, and the junior high Cats splitting their two games.

On Tuesday night on the Tony Sawyer Memorial Court, the varsity Wildcats started feverishly scoring the first 12 points of the game.

San Angelo Cornerstone chipped away at the lead until the game was ties at 21-21 by halftime.

Grady would regain a slim lead in the third quarter with a 13-point performance, but San Angelo was able to mount an offensive attack in the final minutes to slide past Grady for a 43-41 victory.

Gunner Rivas led the Wildcats in scoring with 10 points and Quint Harrell added nine

Logan Aaron tossed in eight points followed by Austin Aaron with six, Frankie Jimenez four, Arath Alarcon two, and Cooper Sims two points.

The varsity Cats fall to 2-4 on the season and will be back in action at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11 against Hermleigh at Grady.

The junior varsity Wildcats destroyed the Sands junior varsity Tuesday night at Grady.

The two teams traded blows like a pair of boxers in a prize fight.

After a first quarter draw where both teams scored six points, Grady delivered an 18-8 punch in the second for a 10-point lead.

Sands would rebound off the canvas and throw a 19-10 haymaker to chop Grady’s lead to one point.

The Wildcats were staggered by the blow but came roaring back with a flurry of blows to knockout Sands 50-37.

Kody Cates and Aaron Rodgers led Grady in scoring with nine points each.

Chapman Sims and Colt Carson contributed eight points each and Austin Snider chipped in with six points. Hunter McAnally and Hagan O’Donnell rounded out the books with four and two points respectively.

The junior varsity improved to 4-0 on the season and looks to stay perfect with a game against Hermleigh on Friday at 5 p.m. at Grady.

Grady’s junior high teams battled Garden City on Monday.

The Wildcats ‘A’ team took an early 11-5 lead by halftime and never looked back coasting to a 23-13 victory.

Callaway McMorries led all scorers with a season high 13 points.

Gunner Cherry finished the game with five points while Patrick Weitzel had three and Marcus Brown added two.

Grady improved to 1-1 on the season.

The Grady ‘B’ team was out gunned in its contest with Garden City as the Bearkats won 30-11 victory.

Idian Gallegos led the Wildcats with five points followed by Hayden Blaylock, Ethan Gallegos, and Kyler Cox with two points each.

Grady falls to 0-2 on the season.

The junior high teams are scheduled to be back in action on Dec. 14, hosting Borden County at 7 p.m.
