Wildcats slip by Hermleigh, can’t keep pace with Forsan

GRADY – The Grady varsity boys basketball team played back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday splitting their victories between Hermleigh and Forsan.

Grady hosted Hermleigh on Friday and the two teams went to battle from tip-off to buzzer.

Hermleigh took the first lead with a 17-11 first half performance but Grady rallied in the third to take a 30-23 lead.

Hermleigh made it an exciting finish with a late scoring explosion but Grady held on for a 39-36 win.

“We had a slow start but finally settled down in the second half and outscored Hermleigh 28-19,” said Grady coach Chris Short. “Very proud of the effort on both ends of the floor.

Cooper Sims had a team high eight points for Grady while Austin Aaron and Logan Aaron added seven points each.

Cobe Cortez and Arath Alarcon scored five points each while Frankie Jimenez helped out with four points and Quint Harrell tossed in three.

The next day Grady hosted Forsan and the Buffaloes took full advantage of a sluggish Wildcat team.

Grady started off so slow they looked to be playing in cement shoes allowing Forsan a 14-1.

The Wildcats finally kicked the offense into gear and matched Forsan point for point over the next 16 minutes.

Grady could not keep pace in the final quarter as the Buffaloes ran off with the 49- 24 win.

“We struggled to score points and had a poor first and fourth quarter on offense,” stated Short. “It’s a great time to take a break and get healthy.”

L. Aaron led Grady with 10 points and Sims added six points.

Alarcon tallied three points followed by Jimenez with two, Blaise Warren two, and A. Aaron one.

Grady’s season record now stands at 3-5.

Next up for Grady will be a home game against Wink on Dec. 29.
