GARDEN CITY - Grady’s tennis teams opened the season with Garden City Invitational Tennis Tournament last Friday.
Girls Singles Division
Freshman Aspen Durham lost both of her matches.
“This was her first tournament ever to play. She fought hard and played well,” said Grady Coach Chris Short.
Boys Singles Division
Senior Gunnar Rivas finished the day winning one of his three matches.
Rivas lost to Sterling City’s #1 singles player 4-8 but returned to defeat Irion Co. #2 player 8-4.
He would later lose in the consolation finals to Miles #2 player 3-6, 2-6.
“He had three tough opponents and got better each match,” added Short
Girls Doubles Division
Freshman Samantha Griffin and senior Raina Short paired up for the first time.
The dynamic duo won all four matches to win the Garden City Invitational Tennis Tournament.
“These girls played well all 4 matches. The conditions were tough with the wind, but they were able to adjust,” stated Short

Defeated Braden/Mier from Garden City 8-1
Championship
Defeated Vasquez/Manrique from Garden City 6-0, 6-1
“This was the first Tournament of the year for our players. I was very proud of all four of the Grady players.,” said Short.
