Stanton posts back-to-back 20 run wins

STANTON – Stanton’s varsity softball team opened the District 5-3A season in dominate fashion with a crushing beat down of Sonora on Tuesday in Stanton.

Sonora was the first to strike with one run in the top of the first inning. Stanton answered with two runs in the bottom of first inning followed by back-to-back four run innings for a monstrous 10-1 lead.

Stanton continued to pour the runs to the score board with a staggering 13 run fourth inning pushing its advantage to 23-1.

The Lady Broncos added one run in the fifth inning bringing the final tally to 23-2.

Trinity Johnson picked up the win pitching five full innings, striking out five, walking two, giving up six hits and two earned runs. 53 of her 74 pitches were recorded as strikes.

Stanton’s offense was led by Analiese Gonzalez, Zoey Ruiz, Lilliana Rodriguez, and Mikah Kargl with four hits each.

The Lady Buffs were a menace on the base paths as well racking up 15 stolen bases. Kargl and Natalie Taylor led the team with four each.

Over the weekend Stanton finished up the nondistrict season with a 20-5 victory over Seagraves.

The Lady Buffs were on fire from the start scoring seven runs in the first inning followed by another four, three, and six runs respectively.

Kargl started the game and pitched two inning and Rodriguez came in and finished the final two innings.
