SONORA - The Stanton Buffaloes softball team picked up a big win last week with a 15-6 thumping of Sonora.
Stanton opend the game with five runs in the top of the first inning and added one more in the second.
After falling, Sonora managed to score six runs in the first three inning to tie the game at 6-6.
The Buffs would add at least two runs in the next four innings while Sonora bats went cold giving the Buffs the victory.
Trinity Johnson and Lili Rodriguez led Stanton in hits with four each.
Zabrina Gomez tallied three hits while Analisa Gonzales, Zoey Ruiz, Rylee Murry, and Marisela Lozano added two each.
Juliss Ramirez round out the hit chart with one hit.
Rodrigues, Murry, Ruiz, Lozano, and Johnson each recorded a double while Murry and Lozano rounded all the bases with their hits for a home run apiece.
Stanton’s pitching struggled early but once Johnson entered the game in the third inning, Sonora was shut out.
Johnson pitched five complete inning giving up just three hits and no runs.
Stanton has three games remaining:
Apr. 13 at home against Reagan County
Apr. 20 at Coahoma
Apr. 23 at home against Crane.
All games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and the junior varsity girls will play immediately after.
