Smith, Lopez advance to regional track mee

STANTON – The high school track teams competed in the Area 5-6 Track and Field Championships last Thursday at High School.

Athletes finishing in the top four places qualify for the Region I Class AAA meet at Abilene Christian University Track and Field Stadium on Apr. 23 and 24 in Abilene.

Those qualifying for Region were:

Ashton Smith – 4th place in the shot put. Competes on Apr. 23 at 12 p.m.

Max Lopez – 4th place in the 400. Competes in the prelims on Apr. 23 at around 3 p.m.

Athletes finishing in the top two places at regionals will advance to the State Track and Field Meet. After the regional meet directors have certified the state qualifiers, the UIL staff will select one additional qualifier for each event to compete in the state meet as a wild card. The Class AAA State Meet will be at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 6.
