Fishing reports improve to excellent in Hill Country

Alan Henry

FAIR. Water clear 67- 69 degrees; 5.82’ low. Black bass are good, especially with rain and increasing temperatures this week, but stay away on east wind days. Fish with crankbaits, spinners, and worms staying close to the dam and using the plentiful habitats of rocks and timber. Crappie are fair with jigs in shallower timber and around the pier. Catfish are fair on live bait, cut bait, and stinkbait.

Brownwood

EXCELLENT. Water stained; 66 degrees; 1.70 low. Largemouth bass are good in coves, along grass lines and timber in 2-12 feet with frogs, bladed spinners, crankbaits, and finesse jigs. Crappie are good on minnows in brush piles, near bridge pilings, and in the creeks. White bass and hybrids are excellent on spoons, swimbaits, and live bait on the main lake channel, humps, and ridges. Look for birds diving over feeding schools of white bass. Catfish are excellent on cut bait, chicken liver, and live bait in 3-10 feet depth.

Buchanan

EXCELLENT. Water stained; 66 degrees; 5.40 low. Largemouth bass are excellent with black or purple plastic worms, crankbaits, jigs, and spinners in 3-14 feet. Striped bass are good along the river channel with live bait and swimbaits. White bass are excellent on slabs, crankbaits, and swimbaits on the main lake ridges, flats, and humps. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs, fishing docks, creeks, and river channels. Channel catfish are good on punch bait. Blue cats are excellent on cut bait.

Ft. Phantom Hill

FAIR. Water stained; 67 degrees; 0.99’ low. White and hybrid striped bass are good with minnows and rattletraps working coves and points. Largemouth bass are good and starting to turn on with warmer temperatures on spinners, crankbait, and buzzbaits working the edges of deeper vegetative cover and hanging at 13 feet above brush in the afternoons. Crappie are good on jigs in creeks and strong structure with very little daylight getting through. Catfish are fair at night on cut shad and stinkbait.

Nasworthy

GOOD. Water murky; 69 degrees. 0.97’ low. Black bass are good to fair working shallow with murkier water using topwater, soft plastic baits, and reeled baits with vegetation in subtle colors if you are diving baits. Crappie are fair on jigs using bridges, piers, and docks. White bass are fair on spoons and Alabama rigs above brush, drops, and working deep points. Catfish are fair on live and prepped baits throughout the lake.

O.C. Fisher

FAIR. Water stained; 68 Degrees. 42.51’ low. Largemouth Bass are good on Carolina rigged plastic worms, spinners, crankbaits, and almost all baits. Start shallow and move deep to around points, vegetation, rip rap, and drops. Crappie are fair on jigs trying to get deeper into structures of ledges no deeper than 12 feet. White bass are fair on Alabama rigs off points and brush. Catfish are fair on stinkbait, live, and cut bait.

O.H. Ivie

FAIR. Water clear; 68 degrees; 13.36’ low. Black bass are good in the early hours, with topwater producing the best results. Daytime and evenings use worms and crankbaits over brush and ledges. Crappie are fair on live minnows close to structure. Catfish are good on stinkbait, live, and cut bait.

Oak Creek

FAIR. Water lightly stained; 69 degrees; 4.35’ low. Largemouth bass are good on worms, spinners, and bass jigs looking towards timber and creek beds. Crappie are good on live bait, working the uncast-able spots vertically. White bass are fair on Alabama rigs looking deep off points. Catfish are fair on trotlines, nightcrawlers, live bait, and cut bait.

Possum Kingdom

FAIR. Water clear; 67 degrees; 0.29’ low. Largemouth bass are good with emerging topwater. Use worms and small crankbaits with rocks being first and drops being second. Crappie are fair on jigs using boat docks and along the shady side of cliffs in the afternoons. White bass are fair on Alabama rigs still working deep around 16-18 feet. Striped bass are slow. Catfish are good on cut bait, live sunfish, and stinkbait.

Spence

FAIR TO SLOW. Water stained; 65 degrees; 41.14’ low. Largemouth bass are good on rocks and drops with worms, shallow crankbait, some topwaters, and Alabama rigs off points. Crappie are slow on jigs in river structure and appears to be slow throughout the lake. White bass are slow on minnows working deep as possible. Catfish are fair on live and cut bait around 12 feet with increased catches at night.

Twin Buttes

FAIR. Water Stained. 68 Degrees. 12.20’ low. Black Bass are good on drops and humps with worms, spinners, live bait, and crankbait. Crappie are fair still in the Concho River with large structures on live bait. Catfish are fair on live prepped and cut bait.
