LUBBOCK – The Stanton Buffaloes opened the District 4-AAA season on the road with Lubbock Roosevelt on Friday.
It was a very difficult game for the Buffaloes on both sides of the ball as the Eagles defending its home turf with a 54-2 victory.
Stanton’s offense was limited to 30 rushes for a total of 96 yards.
Miguel Moreno led the charge with 46 yards followed by Eddie Wittenbarger with 20 and Ryan Andler with 18. Hoyt Mims and Ethan Anaya chipped in with nine and three yards respectively.
The top defenders for the Buffaloes were Wittenbarger and Cristian Orona as the duo brought down 14 Eagles each.
Gilbert Flores, Jahir Galindo, and Andler racked up seven tackles apiece while Mims and Fabian Escamilla added six and five tackles respectively.
Cody Hancock and Aiden Hinojosa ended the game with four tackles each followed by Anaya with three, Moreno two, Adam Booth two, and Tyler Waggoner one.
Orono and Flores each recorded a blocked point after attempt.
In the return game, Ornoa tallied 53 kick-off return yards and 23 punt return yards and Trandon Edmondson gained 30 yards on kick-off.
Also picking up wins in District 4-AAA were Idalou and Abernathy. Idalou beat Coahoma 62-24 and Abernathy topped Reagan County 70-18.
Stanton will play Coahoma this week at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton at 7:30 p.m. in the Pink Out Game.
Idalou will be at Abernathy and Lubbock Roosevelt will travel to Reagan County.
