GARDEN CITY - No. 8-ranked Garden City is all rested up following a well deserved open week. Now the Bearkats look to take care of business against Marfa this week with a homecoming victory and finish off the scheduled season with three district wins over Midland TLCA, Grady, and Rankin
Garden City (4-2) will host Marfa (3-3) for homecoming and the last non-district tune-up before beginning District 6-1A Division I play.
“(The open week) was awesome,” Garden City coach Jeff Jones said. “The kids worked hard and we had some really good practices. Coming off that win against Westbrook (54-44) got us going again.”
Jones, who previously coached at Marfa said they are a scrappy team and not to take them lightly.
“We going to have to get over some of the distractions that come with homecoming week and then we have a junior high game right before it. We’re going to have to stay focused,” Jones said. “Marfa provides some challenges as they run a tight offense, have a good receiver and their defense is pretty opportunistic.”
Jones said other than a win, he would like to see his team stay healthy and sharpen some things up going into district play.
“We have a tough little district road ahead and I want to make sure we don’t have mistakes on Friday and have a real crisp game,” he said.
Marfa is ready for Friday and is coming off a huge 56-6 win over Midland TLCA
