Buffs fall to Abernathy, must beat Reagan County

ABERNATHY – The Stanton Buffaloes continued with their brutal district schedule last Friday night with a trip north to No. 10 Abernathy. The Antelopes were as good as advertised beating the Buffaloes 40-7.

Abernathy racked up a total of 397 yards of offense with 299 coming through the air and the other 98 gained on the ground.

Stanton had a good ground attack picking up 267 yards and added 12 passing yards for 279 yards of total offense.

While the Buffaloes managed to move the ball well on offense and could have scored a couple more times, an inter-ception and two lost fumbles killed several drives.

Kameron Isemann led the Buffs offense with 146 yards rushing and one touchdown on 24 carries.

Miguel Moreno ended the game with 56 yards rushing, 12 yards passing, and an extra point kick. Eddie Wittenbarger added 51 yards rushing followed by Ryan Andler with nine yards and Cristian Orono had five yards.

Aiden Hinojosa accounted for all 12 of Stanton’s receiving yards.

On defense, Orona and Gilbert Flores led Stanton with five tackles each while Moreno, Wittenbarger, and Andler added four apiece.

Ethan Anaya brought down three Antelopes and Hinojosa, Daniel Wickler, and Fabian Escamilla tackles two each.

Trandon Edmondson, Adam Booth, Adrian Scott, Landen McDaniel, Hoyt Mims, James Molina, and Raphel Rive-ra ended the game with one tackle each.

Other defensive stats had Orona and Escamilla getting three and one hurries, and Hinojosa had a tackle for loss.

Mims had a big interception and Orona blocked two extra-point kicks.

Stanton will play its last district game at home on Friday against Reagan County at 7:30 p.m.
