STANTON – The football season has boiled down to one final district game for the Stanton Buffaloes.
Currently sitting in fourth in District 4 AAA-DII, the Buffaloes can clinch a state playoff spot for the first time since 2017 with a win Friday night over Reagan County.
Stanton (1-3) hosts the Reagan County Owl (0-4) at 7:30 p.m. at Buffalo Stadium and is currently favored to win.
“This is about as big of a game that we’ve had in a long time,” Stanton coach Cody Hogan said. “We’re looking for a good showing in our last home game of the year.”
The Buffaloes enter the contest coming off a 40-7 loss to Abernathy while Reagan County lost its previous game to Idalou 49-7.
Hogan said turnovers hurt his team in the loss to the Antelopes last week.
“We can’t have those and expect to beat a quality opponent,” he said. “But overall, I was pretty happy with the way we played.”
Elsewhere in District 4, No. 10 Abernathy travels to Coahoma while No. 9 Lubbock Roosevelt looks to win the District 4 title with a victory over No. 12 Idalou.
