Coahoma squeaks by Wildcats Tuesday night

GRADY – After a short Thanksgiving break, Grady’s varsity and junior varsity boys’ basketball teams were back in action against Coahoma on Tuesday night in Grady.

The two teams were evenly matched with the outcome being a difference of just one point.

Grady had an impressive first eight minutes of the game to take a 17-13 lead. However, the second set of eight minutes the Wildcats offense went cold allowing Coahoma to rally back and tie the game at 22-22 by halftime.

The second half was fast paced, back and forth, nonstop action. Coahoma had a slim two-point lead after the third quarter and managed to hold on at the end of the game for a 44-43 victory.

The game could have been different as Grady struggled from the foul line shooting just 5 of 12.

The Wildcats did have a decent night from downtown making four three-pointers. (Aaron, Harrell, Warren, McAnally).

“This was another great matchup for the Wildcats. This game was close all four quarters. I feel like this was our best game of the young season,” said Gradyc oach Chris Short. “We played very solid on both ends of the floor. Coahoma played very solid man-man defense and I thought that we handled it well most of the game. I was very proud of the effort all the players gave. Our bench did a great job for us.”

Logan Aaron finished with a team high 11 points and Quint Harrell added 10 points.

Austin Aaron chipped in with eight points followed by Chapman Sims with four.

Blaise Warren and Hunter McAnally tossed in three points each and Kody Cates and Cooper Wallin added two points apiece.

The junior varsity game was close, but only for the first few minutes. Coahoma managed to keep pace to the tune of 7-6 before Grady exploded offensive and tripled Coahoma’s output the rest of the game.

When the dust settled, Grady had a 40-18 victory.

“Great effort on the defensive end throughout the game. We rebounded extremely well,” said Grady coach Brett Glaze. “Marcus Brown and Hagan O’Donnell took care of the ball extremely well throughout the game. Great effort by everyone involved.”

Daulton Saunders had a game high 11 points and Marcus Brown added seven.

Colt Carson racked up six points while Hunter Blaylock and Stetson Foster pitched in with four points each.

Patrick Wietzel and Blake Parker ended the game with three points each and Cyle Taylor had two points.

Grady’s varsity will be in the Miles Ribs Tournament this week with a first round matchup at 4:30 on Thursday against Bronte.
