Wildcats compete at Miles Tournament

MILES – The Grady Wildcats had a successful week at the Miles Tournament celebrating the victory and learning from the defeats.

Grady opened the tournament last Thursday against Bronte.

The Wildcats had a strong first half taking a 20-13 lead, but Bronte rallied with a huge third quarter and went on the win 47-43.

Chapman Sims led Grady with a season high 14 points and Quint Harrell and Logan Aaron added 12 and 11 points respectively.

Austin Aaron scored four point while Blaise Warren and Kody Cates pitched in with one point each.

Grady looked spectacular in its second game against Grape Creek. The Wildcats opened the game with a 13-0 run and stretched the gap to 27-8 by halftime.

The second half was just a dominating as Grady rolled to a 59-18 victory.

Ten players scored for the Wildcats, led by Harrell with 11 points.

L. Aaron, Sims, and Warren tossed in eight points each followed by A. Aaron, Austin Snider, and Cobe Cortez with three points each.

Hunter McAnally and Cooper Wallin had two points apiece and Cates had one.

The final game of the tournament was a struggle. Irion County posted double digits in all four quarter while holding Grady to eight points or less in each quarter.

At the final buzzer Irion County won 57-28.

L. Aaron led Grady with 12 points while Harrell and Sims tallied six points each. A. Aaron scored three points and Wallin had one.

“This was a great tournament for us” said Grady coach Chris Short. “I am very proud of the progress that the team is making. We are getting better each game and starting to find our team’s identity.”

Grady will be back in action this Thursday at the Garden City Bearkat Booster Klassic. The Wildcats first round opponent will be Permian Junior Varsity and will start at 12:20 pm.
