Wildcats destroy Lady Birds

GRADY – The Grady girl’s were the better teams Tuesday night as both the varsity and junior varsity beat Crane at Wildcat Gymnasium in Grady.

The varsity jumped on Crane early with a 10-2 run. The Lady Birds stole the momentum in the second quarter to cut the Wildcat’s lead to 20-16 by halftime.

Grady completely took over in the second half and ran away with a 53-24 victory.

Jessi Everett and Sydney Gonzales led the Lady Cats with 17 and 16 points respectively.

Delaney Saunders and Mercedes Jimenez finished the game with six points each and Skye Shock had four. Samantha Griffin and Tatum North tosses in two points apiece.

“Big third quarter allowed us to pull away from Crane. The defense came and held them to three points,” stated coach Jym Dennis. “We forced 38 turnovers and turned that into 39 points. Great effort on the defensive end of the floor.”

The varsity Wildcats are now 6-4 on the season.

The two junior varsity teams were very even, but Grady’s defense kept Crane scoreless in the second quarter and that proved to be the difference in the 18-13 victory.

“I thought the girls did a great job of running the offense. They were able to make adjustments to get open shots. They did a really good job of looking for their open teammates,” stated Dennis.

Emma Parker scored a game high 12 points while Aislynne Mendoza, Aspen Durham, and Selig Burge added two points each.

The junior varsity is now 1-1 on the season.
