Sub-varsity Cats too much for Golden Cranes

GRADY – Grady’s subvarsity boys teams proved better than the 3A Crane Golden Cranes Tuesday night winning both games by double digits.

The junior varsity game started with a Wildcat’s 7-2 run and by halftime the lead had grown slightly to 15-8.

Second half action was pretty even but Grady added a couple more buckets for a 31-20 victory.

Patrick Wietzel led Grady in scoring with 10 points and Marcus Brown added seven.

Colt Carson finished the night with four points followed by Daulton Saunders and Stetson Foster with three points each and Cyle Taylor and Hagan O’Donnell with two points apiece.

“Great effort from all involved. Big shots by Wietzel and Foster in the fourth quarter sealed the game for the Wildcats,” said Grady coach Brett Glaze. “Great defensive performances by Hunter Blaylock and Hagan O’Donnell carried the Wildcats to a victory.”

The freshman Wildcats used a similar strategy, take a commanding lead early and gradually increase the gap over the next few quarters.

At halftime Grady already had an 18-5 lead and eventually won 30-16.

Cyle Taylor had a game high nine points and Wietzel added seven.

Justin Tyler and Blake Parker tossed in three points each and Hayden Blaylock and Aaron Cates tallied two points each.

“Great physical game. Kids really stepped up when they had too,” stated Glaze. “We played well on the boards and that ended up being the difference in the game late.”

The freshman Wildcats are 1-0 on the season.
