HIGHLAND – Garden City ran into a buzzsaw in the second round of the Highland Hilltop Classic last week but rebounded from the tough loss to finish third in the tournament and then crush Ira on Tuesday.
The Bearkats opened the tournament with a nice 42-36 victory over Sterling City.
Mason Walker lead Garden City with a doubledouble 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Julio Talamantes added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Friday’s second round of action pitted Garden City against No. 17 Eula.
It was a tight game from start to finish but Eula managed a couple more baskets down the stretch for a 54-48 victory.
Walker led the Kats with 12 points and five boards and Talamantes tossed in 10 points and grabbed five boards.
Garden City would battle Roscoe for third place and it was all Kats from the tip. After building a huge halftime lead Garden City cruised to a 51-33 third place title.
John Lopez had a crazy game with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Walker chipped in with a double-double 13 points and 12 rebounds.
On Tuesday night, Garden City took Ira to task 68-23.
Stat leaders were Mason Walker with 23 points and 16 rebounds, John Lopez with 10 points and 14 rebounds, and Julio Talamantes with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Bearkat’s season record now sits at 4-2.
Garden City will host the Bearkat Booster Klassic starting Thursday and finishing on Saturday.
