STANTON – Junior high basketball is underway at Stanton.
The seventh grade boys A and B teams won the season openers on Nov. 15 against Crane. The A team dominated 40-20 and the B team crushed Crane 30-5.
Then on Dec. 2 the two teams split with the A team beating Reagan County 18-10 and the B team losing a close battle 10-7.
The most recent game was on Monday against Coahoma. The two teams were very evenly matched but Coahoma managed to keep Stanton scoreless in the fourth quarter to win 25-19.
Scoring for the Buffs were Pastrana 2, Garcia 2, Hinojosa 8, Dominguez 2, Glover 3, and Salcido 2.
Stanton’s eighth grade girls A team lost the last two games to Reagan County and Coahoma.
Scoring against Reagan County were Barrera 2, Chavez 2, Smith 6, Barnes 1, and Glover 2.
Scoring against Coahoma were Melton 3 and Barrera 3.
The B team had a couple hard games also losing to Reagan County and Coahoma.
Against Reagan County, scoring for the Lady Buffs wereHernandez 2, Montanez 1, Duarte 4, Hinojosa 2, and Madison 5.
Scoring against the Bulldogettes were Hernandez 4, Montanez 2, and Duarte 4.
Finally, the eighth grade boys teams fell to Coahoma.
The A team was led by Cris, Sisto, and Chad with four points each followed by Nathan with three and Taven with two.
The B team was a close game. The two teams were tied 6-6 at half before Coahoma managed a couple more field goals to win 20-15.
River led the Buffs with nine points while Ashton, Jonas, and Devan added two points each.
