Stanton splits with Sundown, Slaton

LUBBOCK - The Stanton Buffaloes last to game were thrillers until the final buzzer.

The first game against Sundown didn’t start very well as the Buffs scored just three points and fell in a hole early.

Stanton kept pace in the middle quarters and exploded in the final eight minutes for a marvelous 31-29 come from behind victory.

Tyler Haas led Stanton with 11 points and Max Lopez added six points.

Trandon Edmondson ended the game with four points followed by Jahir Galindo with three, Ethan Armendarez two, Aidan Galaviz two, Hoyt Mims two, and Ryan Andler one.

The Buffs next game was against Slaton.

The two teams were very evenly matched, so much so they were tied 21-21 at halftime and then tied 35-35 at the end of regulation.

Over the final four minutes the two would battle back and fourth with Slaton managing the final bucket for a 44-42 victory.

Galaviz had a team high 16 points for Stanton and Casey Buchannan added eight points. Galindo and Lopez finished with six points each while Haas, Armendarez, and Andler pitched in with two points apiece.

Stanton will open district play on Jan. 11 with a road game in Coahoma. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
