Buffaloes clinch playoff berth

STANTON – The Stanton Buffaloes have clinched a playoff spot with their two most recent victories and can claim District Runner-Up on Friday.

Last week Stanton took on the struggling Sonora Broncos.

While the first quarter looked like the game was going to be close, Stanton blew the narrative up in the second quarter and took a 21- 10 halftime lead.

Second quarter action was controlled by the Buffaloes defense and Stanton went on to win 41- 29.

Cody Hancock led the Buffs with 10 points and Aidan Galaviz added nine points.

Miguel Moreno tallied eight points while Jahir Galindo and Tyler Haas chipped in three points each.

Max Lopez, Hoyt Mims, Ryan Andler, and Casey Buchannan rounded out the books with two points apiece.

Then on Tuesday, Stanton bested Crane to move into second in the district standings.

It was tough in the early quarters with the Golden Cranes taking a 10-7 halftime lead.

Stanton finally woke up in the third period and erupted for 18 points to take a 25-18 lead into the fourth quarter.

Crane would keep the finish interesting with desperation fouls, but Stanton answered the challenge and made seven free throws down the stretch for a 40-32 victory.

Moreno led the way with 13 points and Haas tossed in seven points.

Buchanan pitched in with six points while Galaviz and Galindo ended the game with five points each.

Lopez and Hancock had three points and one point respectively.
