19 Buffaloes going to Abilene for UIL

STANTON - The Stanton Buffalo UIL and OAP students have been busy the last few weeks with multiple competitions.

The Stanton High School CX debaters traveled to Austin to compete in the state Cross-Examination meet on Mar. 14-15.

The debate teams were Stephen Sirois/Isaiah Ramos and Andrea Ellington/Addison Silva. Both teams debated four times; the freshmen team of Ellington/Silva advanced to Day 2 of the competition with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss. They were defeated in the quarterfinal round by a panel judge decision of 2-1. It was an excellent showing for Stanton High School.

Also, the One-Act-Play participated in the Bi-district contest in Clyde on Mar. 24. The students had a marvelous performance and ranked as the Alternate Play.

Maddie Hull was named a member of the All-Star Cast, Kenyon Gee was named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Ashley Hill was named to the Best Technical Crew. Then on Mar. 22, Stanton High School hosted the District 5-3A academic competition.

Stanton had a tremendous day, scoring 440 points and placing as the runner-up Academic Champion.

Sonora won the academic championship with 474 points.

Other schools in District 5 that competed were Coahoma, Compass Academy, Crane, Midland Early College High School, Reagan County, and UTPB STEM Academy. Stanton has 19 students advancing (in 21 spots) to the Region 1 Academic Contest on Apr. 22-23, 2022, at Abilene Christian University.
