LEVELLAND - Grady and Garden City are poised to not only send a handful of athletes to the state meet, but medal at the state meet if they are able to match their best performances from Area or District.
The first and second place winners in each event at the Region I meet qualify to the state meet. The UIL staff will also select one additional qualifier for each event to compete in the state meet. This will make a total of nine participants per event.
State Standings
Grady’ Sydney Gonzales is the favorite to win gold at state. She’s currently sitting first in the pole vault with a vault of 10-06.
She cleared this height at the Borden County Meet which broke the Borden County Meet record and set a new Grady High School record.
Garden City’s Barbara Wittrein has the third fastest time in the State in the 200 M Dash at 27.14.
Garden City’s Sebastian Balcazar is just out of hte medals in the 300 M Hurdles with the fourth fastest time of 42.34.
The Garden City 4x400 M Relay Team has the second fastest time at 3:34, just four second sbehind state leader Klondike.
Garden City’s Bailey Dehlinger could possibly take bronze at state as her best vault of 8-06 has her fourth.
