Stanton stays scrappy in loss to Reagan County

STANTON – The Stanton Buffaloes varsity baseball team fought back after falling down by four runs in the first inning, but the comeback fell just short in a 13-12 loss to Reagan County last Friday.

Stanton tallied ten runs in the failed comeback. Aaron Montez, Colby Carson, Adam Booth, Micah Hinojosa, Matthew Marquez, and Miguel Moreno all picked up RBIs in the rally.

The Buffaloes were right in the mix until Reagan County doubled in the seventh inning.

Reagan County got things moving in the first inning, when A Reyes doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Stanton put up six runs in the sixth inning. Marquez, Moreno, Aidan Galaviz, and Jaedyn Martinez each had RBIs in the frame.

J Hernandez earned the win for Reagan County. The pitcher lasted two innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two and walking zero. E Gonzales threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Reyes started the game for Reagan County surrendering three runs on three hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one.

Hinojosa took the loss for Stanton. The righty lasted two innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out one. Carson started the game for Stanton, the righthander surrendered six runs on ten hits over five innings, striking out four and walking one.

Stanton tallied 12 hits on the day. Galaviz, Carson, Aiden Hinojosa, and Hinojosa each managed multiple hits for Stanton Buffaloes Varsity. Hinojosa, Hinojosa, Carson, and Galaviz each managed two hits to lead Stanton.

Reagan County racked up 15 hits in the game. Reyes, Hernandez, A Botello, Gonzales, J Saucedo, and S Soto each collected multiple hits for Reagan County. Reyes went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Reagan County in hits.

Stanton will play Wall today in the Bi-District Round of the Class 3A State Playoffs.

Game 1 is set for 4 p.m. followed by Game 2, 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

A third game, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday in Stanton at 12 p.m.
