12U Stanton Buffaloes rally to win championship

COAHOMA - The Stanton Buffaloes 12U allstar baseball team competed in the Coahoma All-Star Tournament last weekend.

On Saturday, the Buffaloes competed in two games of pool play dominating Roscoe and barely losing to Coahoma.

In game one against Roscoe, Stanton started by striking out the side.

At the plate the Buffs rattled off five runs to take the early lead.

Roscoe would send four batters to the plate but would not score any runs as one grounded out and two other struck out.

Stanton’s bats were still on fire as the Buffs scored another seven runs bring their total to seven.

Roscoe would fail to score a run in the third inning and the game was called with Stanton winning 12-0.

In the second game of Pool play, Coahoma jumped on Stanton early scoring six runs in the top of the first inning.

Stanton answered with a pair of runs in the first inning and three more in the second.

Coahoma added one run in the third for a 7-5 lead and that run proved to be the difference as Stanton only managed one more run giving Coahoma the 7-6 victory.

In the single elimination bracket on Sunday, Stanton opened up with Lamesa.

In the first inning, Lamesa jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first and left one runner stranded at third base.

Stanton’s Mason, Reese, Bradyn, Nic, and Austin each scored a run in the bottom of the first giving the Buffs a 5-2 advantage.

The Golden Tornadoes added another run in the second inning to cut Stanton’s lead to 5-3.

Stanton sent three batters to the plate in the second inning and Lamesa sent them right back to the dugout.

Lamesa added another run in the third inning but Stanton’s Braydn, Xavier, and Austin scored runs increasing the lead to 8-4.

Lamesa had one last chance but could only muster two runs giving Stanton the 8-6 win.

The championship game would be a rematch between Coahoma and Stanton.

The Bulldogs would score six runs over the first three innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

Stanton’s bats were asleep for the first three innings as 10 players went to the plate and only Tee managed to get on base and work his way around to score after stealing home base.

Coahoma stretched its lead back to six points with one run in the fourth and that’s when the sleeping giant awoke.

Stanton went crazy in the fourth inning scoring six runs to tie the game.

Mason, Reese, Bradyn, Nic, Austin, and Tee crossed the plate. The Buffs had a chance to take the lead with Branson on third base with one out. But two strikeouts ended the inning.

The heart of Coahoma’s lineup was due up and while all ffour players hit the ball, Stanton fielded three cleanly to keep the game tied at 7-7.

In their final at bat, Mason led off with a hit and scored the winning run when he was knocked home by Reese on a fielders choice.

Stanton won the championship 8-7.
