Wildcats fall to Bulldogs, look to bounce back against Eagles

– The Grady Wildcats opened their football season on the road against the Amherst Bulldogs in Bulldog Stadium. Despite a great effort, the Wildcats fell 32-6.

“I was pleased with the way we stayed disciplined throughout most of the game,” said Grady coach Jourmain Matta. “On offense we were getting to where we needed to be, but just weren't making the plays when we needed to make them. On defense, we were reading and getting to our spots but we just failed to make the big plays when we needed to make them.” Hunter McAnally led the Wildcats passing attack with five completions for 42 yards and he added 33 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Gunner Cherry picked up 77 yards on the ground on 15 carries and he had 51 yard receiving on four catches. He also scored Grady’s only touchdown.

Charles Deatherage rounded out the offensive stats with 12 yards receiving on one catch.

Defensively Grady racked up 22 tackles.

McAnally led the way with 11 tackles followed by Deatherage with six and Cherry had five.

Deatherage also recorded a sack.

“This week we need to work on finishing. We need to finish our offensive drives.

We drove inside the 20-yard line 5 times and only scored once,” stated Matta.

“We didn't finish defensive drives. We let them out of third down, fourth down, and long situations. We didn't maintain blocks as well as I would have liked, and we didn't finish tackles” Grady will play O’Donnell tonight in O’Donnell. The Eagles lost their season opener last week to Spur, 64-18.
