Forson once again best Buffalo team in Basin

FORSAN – The Battle of the Buffaloes was once again won by the Black and White as Forsan beat Stanton 34-14 Friday night at Buffalo Stadium in Forsan. Forsan used a big first quarter to take a 13-0 lead and went up big, 27-0 after scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Stanton’s offense finally got some magic working scoring twice in the final 12 minutes. “I was pretty pleased with how we played defensively except for a couple drives; we made some mistakes that allowed some big plays. Those are mistakes that can be corrected this week,” said Stanton coach Cody Hogan. “I felt like we played better offensively this week than we did against Merkel. It seemed like every time we got some momentum going and had positive plays on offense, we would shoot ourselves in the foot with a fumble or other simple mistakes. We were in the redzone twice in the first half and failed to convert on either of those due to mistakes that we made. Forsan is a well-coached team and you can't make the mistakes we did and still have a chance to win the game.” Stanton’s offense ran 67 plays picking up 20 first downs and gaining 260 yards.

Forsan ran 48 plays and picked up 12 first down and 288 yards. Jake Benedict led Stanton’s offense throwing 16 of 31 for 229 yards and two touchdowns. The Buffaloes ground attack was led by Kameron Isemann with 19 yards on five rushing attempts. Ryan Andler caried the ball 15 times for 15 yards. Stanton’s top receiver was Bret Davis with six receptions for 83 yards. Adam Booth hauled in four passes to gain 52 yards while Cody Hancock brought in three passes for 41 yards. Jahir Galindo finished with two receptions for 29 yards and Andler added one catch for 24 yards. Stanton’s big defenders were Aiden Hinojosa and Landon McDaniel with nine tackles each. Ethan Anaya and Isemann ended the night with eight tackles each while Tyler Waggoner, Galindo, Trandon Edmondson, and Carlos Salcido chipped in with six, five, four, and four tackles respectively. Also getting tackles were Benedict two, Alex FLroes two, Davis two, Andler three, Lace Cazares one, Israel Tarin two, and Raphel Rivera three.

In other defensive stats Hinojosa, Flores, and Andler also had one hurry each, Hinojosa recorded an interception while Flores and Rivera had one defended pass each. McDaniel caused a fumble and Galindo recovered a fumble. Stanton is back home this week hosting the Pecos Eagles. Pecos lost last Friday to Sweetwater and the last time the Buffaloes played an Eagles mascot, Stanton dominated. “Our focus in practice this week is on ourselves,” stated Hogan. “We must get better at what we do offensively and defensively. We have to stop making unforced errors that give our opponents easy plays.” While coach Cody Hogan was away most of last week dealing with some family medical issues, he did attend the game against Forsan.

He said, “The Stanton community was very supportive of me and my family last week. The coaching staff and players did a great job of working through me not being around and not using that as an excuse to give poor effort or not play well Friday night. We love this community and are overwhelmed by the support and love shown to us through a challenging week.” Hagon added, “I was at the game Friday night because those kids and coaches are an extension of my family and I needed to be there to support them the way that they supported me through the week. It was also a way for my family and I to show how much we love this community and appreciate what they have done for us.”
