Stanton drops home opener to Merkel, 34-7

- Merkel Badgers fans left the game giddy Friday as they saw their football team gain a win over the Stanton Buffaloes, 34-7 in a non-district test. With the triumph, Merkel improved its record to 2-0 on the campaign. The loss drops Stanton to 1-1 on the season.

JAYTON – Garden City opened its football season with a 68-20 loss to No. 5 Jayton at Jaybird Stadium last Thursday night. The Bearkats put together some impressive drives to score three touchdowns but it’s the team’s youth and inexperience that allowed Jayton to take the victory.

ELDORADO– Garden City went to Eldorado last week to compete in the second cross country meet of the season. The Lady Kats Cross Country team was the Top 1A team at the Eldorado Meet, finishing 7th overall. Emy Schwartz was the top runner for Garden City, placing 12th of 133 runners.

ANDREWS - Grady and Garden City cross country teams competed in the Derek Hernandez Memorial Relay meet in Andrews this past weekend. The teams were composed of 2 runners from each school who partnered to run a relay.
