Grady ISD outstanding tennis players Chapman Sims and Samantha Griffin were in San Antonio this week battling for a State Tennis Title at the Blossom Tennis Center. Sims opened his State Tournament run against Josue Buitron of Gustine and won easily 6-1, 6-3.

Stanton drops final two district games, ready for playoffs

- It was a storybook beginning for the Stanton baseball team’s district season, but two losses in the final two games dropped the Buffs from the top of the standings to a tie for second place with Presidio. On Saturday, Stanton fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 14-4 loss to Tornillo.

The Garden City Bearkats were in San Angelo last week for the Region II UIL Academic meet at Angelo State University. After a very successful meet, 10 Bearkats qualified for the UIL Academic and Speech State Meet on May 17 and 18 on the University of Texas-Austin campus.

- Alyssa Almaguer drove in four on two hits to lead Stanton past Tornillo 22-4 on Saturday. Almaguer drove in runs on a single in the first, a walk in the second, and a single in the second. Stanton secured the victory thanks to 14 runs in the second inning.

- Grady Junior High girls track team captured the district championship scoring 148 points. Klondike was the next closest team with 108 points. Macie Stack was the high point girl athlete of the meet scoring 38 points and Brynlee Madison was second high point athlete scoring 35 points.

- Grady Girls and Boys Competed at the Region 1-A Golf Tournament on April 17-18, at Lubbock. “We have five girls and four boys. Only one girl has played junior varsity golf last year, for the other eight kids, this was their first year to play high school golf. I was very proud of all the kids.
