GRADY - Grady’s varsity and junior varsity basketball teams faced-off with Coahoma’s teams Tuesday evening at Grady High School.

The varsity Wildcats jumped all over Coahoma early en route to a seven point victory while Coahoma’s junior varsity came out of the gate blazing and beat Grady by double digits.

In the junior varsity match-up, Coahoma opened the game with a 23-10 first half run.

The third quarter did Grady in as the Bulldogs out scored the Wildcats 13-2.

Grady closed the gap a little in the final frame but Coahoma ran away with the 41-20 victory.

Cobe Cortez and Colt Carson led Grady in scoring with eight points each and Nick Hamm and Austin Snider added two points apiece.

The varsity Cat’s used a big first quarter to take an 11-6 lead and added two more points to their margin for a 25-18 halftime lead.

Coahoma would chip away at Grady’s lead in the second half but never could top the hill as Grady walked away with the 52-47 win.

“This was an up and down game for us on both ends of the floor. At times we played well, but at time our youth and inexperience showed, but that is expected with this young group,” said Grady coach Chris Short. “Overall it was a good win for us. We got into pressure situations late in the game, which will do nothing but make us better down the road.”

Grady’s Jackson Welch finished with a game high 27 points.

Logan Aaron and Gunnar Rivas chipped in with eight points each while Blaise Warren tallied five points and Cooper Sims tossed in four.

Grady will be playing in the Garden City Tournament this weekend. The brackets for the boys and girls are posted below.

There will be no varsity boys game against Rankin on Tuesday.
