MARTIN COUNTY - Within minutes of Monday’s filing deadline to appear on the ballots, three additional candidates registered to run for office in the Martin County government.

All the other positions up for the November 2020 election cycle are now decided - unless there is some write-in effort next November.

Former county sheriff Randy Cozart joined current sheriff Brad Ingram in the race for Martin County’s chief law enforcement officer.

Keith Perry tossed his hat in the ring for Precinct 1 County Commissioner against incumbent Kenny Stewart and Allen Carby decided to go up against incumbent Bobby Holland for Precinct 3 County Commissioner.

The two decided positions of county attorney and county tax assessor collector will stay with James Napper and Kathy Hull respectively as they run unopposed in March.

An interesting note is all three new candidates joined the incumbents on the Republican ticket. Meaning the primary election on Mar. 3, will decide who will take office in the coming year as there will be no Democratic nominee for the general election next November.

The last day to register to vote will be Feb. 3, 2020 followed by the first day of early voting on Feb. 18 and the last day of early voting on Feb. 28.
